A.J. Akpan - Project Manager

A.J. spent his early childhood in Lagos, Nigeria and attended high school in London, England where he learned skills in computer database management and computer programming. He graduated high school at the age of 15, and relocated back to Lagos where these skills would quickly be put to use at his first job as a database administrator in the IT Department of a Home Loans and Savings bank.

At age 17, A.J. decided to leave Nigeria and attend college in the United States.  After completing some college courses, A.J. joined the U.S. Marine Corps where his knowledge, skills, and attention to detail were honed as an Air Traffic Control Navigational Aids Technician.

In 1999, he earned the highest graduating score on record at the time when he completed the Marine Air Traffic Control Navigational Aids Technician Course. He later deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom immediately following the terrorist attacks on the U.S. Capital after September 11, 2001. During this deployment, he served as the technical expert on a rapid response Marine Air Traffic Control Mobile Team, responsible for inserting Marine Aviation assets in remote locations worldwide. Upon returning from the deployment, he was reassigned to serve as a Technical Instructor for the Marines entering the Air Traffic Control Navigational Aids Electronics Maintenance Field at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL. He was recognized in 2004 as the Technical Instructor of the Year for excellence in training and technical proficiency.


After serving our country for 9 years as a U.S. Marine, A.J. turned his attention to serving our community. He and his wife decided to return to civilian life where he continued to support the U.S. Military by serving as a Dept. of Defense contract employee providing electronics technical support during missile testing missions. In 2007, during his tenure as a DoD contractor, A.J. began building a home theater installation business called Gulf Coast Theaters. His desire was to provide personal and professional technology services along with providing an exceptional customer service experience to the Pensacola community and surrounding areas. He quickly developed a reputation for providing great service with many happy clients, many of whom will only trust A.J. with their technology needs today.


In 2013, A.J. earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Technical Management (Magna-Cum-Laude) from the prestigious Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, with a specialization in Logistics, and by 2016, began building the Total Connect Technology team. With the knowledge and experience he gained building Gulf Coast Theaters, he has been able to grow Total Connect Technology to include home automation, specialized programming for energy management, security cameras, network wiring and design services, lighting control, as well as custom home theater design and surround sound installations. He and his team are dedicated to providing the residents and businesses of Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, Navarre, Milton, Pace, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and surrounding areas with top quality products, professional and detail oriented installations, and exceptional customer service. As a result of his professionalism, dedication to meeting his clients’ needs, and friendly personality, A.J. is blessed to call many of his clients friends, and the team at Total Connect Technology are excited to make you their newest “totally connected” friend! 


A.J. enjoys volunteering his time to serve the community and has received two Letter’s of Appreciation from the President of the United States for volunteer service as a community mentor in the national youth based organization called the Young Marines, where he taught kids between the ages of 8 and 18 the ethos of the U.S. Marine Corps (teamwork, leadership, discipline, and a drug free lifestyle). A.J. also volunteers time to serve in the audio-video ministry at his church as well as supporting outreach ministries. During his free time he loves to spend time with his wife and 3 children watching movies with lots of explosions (on a home theater system he installed himself, of course)!

Akpan and his wife decided to change direction and return to civilian life. As a result, the idea of Total Connect Technology was founded out of the manager's passion for electronics technology as well as a strong desire to provide local residents with quality products and awesome service.
